QUILTS OF VALOR

COMFORT QUILTS - COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Community Outreach meets monthly at the Mohave County Library. We meet from 9am to 3pm. Projects have been: prosthetic pants & shorts for both men & women soldiers. Quilts for the Veterans Hospital. Quilts to Foster Kids. Quilts & receiving blankets to foster children. Quilts, wheelchair/walker bags & adult bibs to Havasu Nursing Center & Lake Hills. Foley Bag covers for Havasu Nursing Center. Lap quilts for The H.A.V.E.N and Mohave County Sheriff’s Dept. Large quilts to the Safe House. Quilts for Kids; these kids are some of the homeless kids here in Lake Havasu City. The Havasu Stitchers contributed quilts to these kids through The H.A.V.E.N Center program, Food 4 Kidz, in 2007/2008. We have continued this program for more kids in 2009.
Dates for 2009 are March 16th, April 8th, May 13th, October 14th, November 18th, & December 9th.
Every summer Comfort Quilts takes time off unless a special project comes up. Usually no gatherings from June through September.
If you are cleaning closets, and want to donate 100% cotton to our projects, we are collecting at the meetings. We can use 1 yd to 4+ yd pieces. Bright colors would be good. Fabric appropriate for boys/men is desired. Need UPC codes from Hobbs Batting packages.
This photo is of the blankets and quilts donated to H.A.V.E.N. Family Resource Center for their Food4 Kids Program. A very big thank you to all of you stitchers who have supported the Community Outreach project to provide quilts and fleece blankets for the H.A.V.E.N. Food-4-Kids program. Your talents and generosity have been tremendous. In the last two months we have delivered 103 quilts/blankets for the food program and 6 baby quilts. The staff at the H.A.V.E.N. is in awe of your talents and generosity. Thank you for the support, Bobbie Baker and Andy Walker

National Quilt Day March 2008
National Quilt Day March 15, 2008 9am to 3pm Mohave Community College - Room 204 Our theme this year was "Eight Hands Around". The idea behind this theme is that it takes many hands to make quilts for charity, that one person can not do it alone. We donated this quilt to the first baby born on March 15 at Havasu Regional Hospital. We ended up having two babies born and we were able to donate another quilt as well. We also collected food donations for Food4Kidz. Items like: fruit juice boxes, pouches, & small plastic bottles, nutri-grain/granola bars, peanut butter and jelly in plastic jars, fruit cups, cash cards & cash. There was a hand quilting demonstration using a small quilt frame. Other demonstrations included machine quilting, making cards, pillowcases, English paper piecing and other surprises. Havasu Stitchers members used the day to sew on comfort quilts also.

QUILTS OF VALOR BY THE 3/4 CRAZIES FRIENDSHIP GROUP
Friendship Group Presentation - Jeanette Kennedy, Sue Wagner and Susan George
We have committed our "quilt" talents to making and providing patriotic quilts for wounded servicemen through an organization known as Quilts of Valor. The three of us (also known as the 3/4 crazies) have already made 3 tops and are in the process of quilting them. Quilts of Valor “Quilting B” We would like other guild members to join us on Wednesday, January 16th /9:30 am at Sew What?. We are planning to present the Quilt of Valor program's mission; specific requirements for quilt sizes and materials; and to see if anyone is interested in participating in this venture to thank those who have given so much of themselves for each of us.
Quilts of Valor has a website: www.qov.org
